Tarello Fellow, Alessio Sardo, awarded €1.5m ERC Research Grant

Tarello Institute is extremely pleased to announce that Alessio Sardo, our Fellow and Senior Lecturer of Legal Theory at the Law Department of the University of Genoa, has been awarded a €1.5 million grant from the European Research Council for the project ‘HABITAT: How European Big Cities and Legal Systems Trigger Urban Inequality.’

Alessio Sardo writes ‘The most pervasive forms of urban inequality are not simply a product of market failures, spontaneous demographic changes, and purely socioeconomic drivers. Rather, they depend largely on the regulatory failure of urban legal systems to correct distortions, inefficiencies, and unfairness of agglomerated urban economies.’

The ERC Starting Grants are designed to support excellent Principal Investigators at the career stage at which they are starting their own independent research team or program. Principal Investigators must demonstrate the ground-breaking nature, ambition, and feasibility of their scientific proposal.
