:: Jobs :: The University of Surrey Doctoral College is advertising up to 12 fully funded studentships, to be awarded to outstanding PhD candidates across a range of disciplines, including Law. These studentships are now available to students starting in January 2018 (only). The deadline for applications is: 12 midday, Monday 13 November 2017.
The aforementioned studentships offer a generous stipend matching the research council rate of £14,553 and cover the cost of UK/EU tuition fees. (Please note that there are also further scholarship opportunities at Surrey, available for all students, including international applicants.)
Surrey’s specialisms offers PhD students the opportunity to explore a diverse range of areas. We have particular research strengths in legal philosophy and legal theory, criminal law, neuroscience and law, Chinese law, international economic law, Roman legal history, environmental law, health sciences and law, artificial intelligence and law, human rights law, and public international law.
The application process is the following:
1. Identify and speak to a prospective supervisor. Use the School of Law staff list to identify a prospective supervisor and contact them to discuss project options before completing the application (www.surrey.ac.uk/law/people/index.htm). If you have difficulty identifying a prospective supervisor, the Director of PhD Admissions may be able to help you (h.asgeirsson@surrey.ac.uk).
2. Apply to the School of Law PhD programme. You can apply for a place by clicking the ‘apply now’ button on the PhD programme page (www.surrey.ac.uk/postgraduate/law-phd). Please indicate on your application that you are applying for a Doctoral College Studentship Award. You are also advised to include your degree transcripts and references in the application, as not providing these documents can slow the process down. The deadline to submit an application for a place on a PhD programme is: 12 midday, Monday 13 November 2017.
3. Complete the Doctoral College Studentships Award application. This is your application for funding and will be used to select successful candidates for funding. Once you have completed your form, please submit it to phdstudentships@surrey.ac.uk by the deadline of 12 midday, Monday 13 November 2017.
Following the application deadline you may be called for an interview, carried out by two members of staff, including your prospective supervisor. Following an interview, candidates will be informed whether they have been successful in securing a studentship award in the week commencing 4 December 2017. If you are successful, you will be required to start your programme in January 2018.
